Replacing interior lighting bulbs (BMW 3 Series E46)

Front dome light/reading light

1. Use a screwdriver to pry up and pull out lampshade "1".

To facilitate removal and avoid damage with a screwdriver, it is recommended that on vehicles with a sliding roof panel, the cover of the panel drive motor at the rear edge "2" is first removed.

2. Turn the lamp sockets (arrows in the illustration) counterclockwise and remove from the lampshade.

3. Remove the lamp from the socket.

4. Press the new bulb into the socket.

5. Insert the cartridge into the lampshade and turn it clockwise until the cartridge locks into place.

6. Insert the lampshade included and press it down.

7. Carefully pry off the lampshade diffuser with a small flat-head screwdriver. The diffuser has a hole into which the screwdriver is inserted.





8. Remove the damaged spotlight from the contact terminals.

9. Insert the new spotlight.

10. First, place the diffuser and then press it down. It should be clearly fixed.

11. Replacement of other interior lighting lamps is carried out in a similar manner. The following are not shown in the illustrations: lower lighting lamps, glove compartment lighting lamp.
