Removal and installation / checking the horn (BMW 5 Series E39)

On the right side behind the front bumper, there is one high-pitched and one low-pitched horn. To protect the horn contacts, a relay is installed between the power button and the horn. When the horn is turned on, the current of the relay control circuit is turned off.

Removal

Raise the car from the front.

Remove the lower engine compartment cover.



Release the fastening "2" of both sound signals "1", disconnect the plug and remove the sound signals.

Examination

Connect the horn directly to the car battery via auxiliary wires. To do this, connect the purple/blue wires to the positive pole (+), and the brown wire connector to the negative pole of the battery. When connected, the horn should work.

Note: To access the sound signals, you must remove the right air intake grille from the bumper. To do this, pull the grille at the right plate forward.

Installation

Insert the sound signal and screw it on.

Connect the multi-pin plug.

Install the lower engine compartment cover.
