Basic information
1. Dynamic stabilization system (DSC) is installed on all models with 6-cylinder engines and can be optionally installed on all other models. This system integrates the functions of the anti-lock braking system (ABS) and the traction control system. This paragraph describes the part of the system related to cornering braking control (SHS). This system monitors wheel speed, wheel load, vehicle speed, lateral acceleration and manages pressure in all four wheel brake cylinders when braking, reducing the risk of vehicle skidding when cornering.
Component Replacement
Angle sensor
2. To replace this sensor, a complete disassembly of the steering column is required, so it is better to entrust this work to the specialists of the service station. Note. After replacing the sensor, it must be calibrated, which requires special equipment. This procedure can only be performed at a specialized service station.
Front suspension ride height sensor
3. Turn away a nut of fastening of draft to the sensor lever (see fig. 12.3 in chapter 12.).
4. Turn out two screws and remove the gauge. After removing the sensor, disconnect the wiring connector from it.
5. Installation of the sensor is carried out in the reverse order. At the end of the work, adjust the headlight control system.
Control block
6. The stabilization system control unit is part of the ABS system control unit. This unit must be replaced by a BMW dealer (see paragraph 20 of chapter 9).
Boost pump
Note. After replacing the booster pump, it is necessary to bleed the high pressure circuit of the brake system. To do this, you must contact a specialized service station.
7. The boost pump is installed under the main brake cylinder. Pinch the hose leading from the master cylinder reservoir to the pump, then disconnect the hose from the pump. Prepare for a fluid leak.
8. Turn away a union nut and disconnect the pipeline from the pump.
9. Disconnect the electrical connector from the pump and remove the pump from the rubber support.
10. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal. Bleed the brake system (see chapter 9).
Lateral acceleration sensor
11. Remove the driver's seat (see chapter 11).
12. After removing the seat, lift the floor panel and slide the insulation about 10 cm forward to access the sensor.
13. Remove the four screws securing the sensor bracket to the body, first lift the inner end of the sensor and remove it (pic. 27.13). After removing the sensor, disconnect the electrical connector from it.
Note. The sensor is very sensitive to shock. Be careful when handling it.
14. If necessary, remove the two screws and remove the sensor from the bracket.
15. Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. At installation tighten all fastenings the demanded moment.
