General information
1. The air conditioning system can be installed on any model. It cools the air in the passenger compartment and reduces its humidity, which makes the atmosphere in the passenger compartment more comfortable and eliminates the cause of fogging of the windows.
2. The cooling part of the system works like a domestic refrigerator. The compressor, which is driven by a belt from the crankshaft, compresses the gaseous refrigerant and pumps it into a condenser located in front of the radiator. In the condenser, the gaseous refrigerant is cooled and becomes a liquid. The liquid refrigerant passes through the expansion valve to the evaporator, where it changes from liquid to gaseous again. This transformation is accompanied by a drop in the temperature of the refrigerant, whereby the evaporator is cooled. The gas from the evaporator re-enters the compressor and the cycle repeats.
3. The evaporator is a heat exchanger through which outside air is blown. The air in the evaporator is cooled and enters the mixing chamber. Here it mixes with the warm air that has passed through the heater core, thereby achieving the desired temperature in the cabin.
4. The heating part of the system works in the same way as in the system without air conditioner.
5. The system operates under the control of an electronic unit with a self-diagnostic function. In the event of any malfunction in the system, it is recommended to contact a BMW workshop.
Precautionary measures
6. If the car is equipped with an air conditioning system, then when working on the system itself or when performing work on other systems, but which require disconnection or partial disassembly of the air conditioning system, certain precautions must be observed. If there is a need to disconnect the air conditioning system in some place, in no case do it yourself - contact the service station specialists.
Attention! The refrigerant is potentially hazardous and must be handled by a suitably trained person. If it comes into contact with the skin, it may cause frostbite. The refrigerant itself is not poisonous, but in the presence of an open flame and even a lit cigarette, it forms a poisonous gas. Uncontrolled discharge of the system is dangerous for people and equipment.
Attention! Do not use the air conditioner if it is known that it is not fully charged as this may damage the compressor.
