Fuel System — Pressure Relief and Initial Fill (BMW 3 Series E46)
Pressure relief
1. Remove the fuel pump fuse from the fuse box. This fuse is located in the main fuse box in the glove box on the passenger side. The fuse position in the box is indicated on the fuse box cover.
2. Start the engine and let it run until it stalls. Turn off the ignition.
3. Unscrew the filler cap.
4 Now there is no pressure in the fuel system.
Note: Place rags around the fuel line connection you want to disconnect. There may be fuel left in the system and it will definitely spill.
5. Before working on any component of the fuel system, disconnect the negative battery cable.
Initial filling
6. Replace the fuel pump fuse. Turn on the ignition and wait a few seconds for the fuel pump to fill the system. If you are not going to start the engine, turn off the ignition.
