Fuel is extremely flammable, so take extra precautions when working on any part of the fuel system. Do not smoke or allow open flames or lamps without shades near the work area. Also, do not work in a garage that uses natural gas equipment with a wick.
1. Remove the fuel pump circuit fuse from the fuse panel.
If the fuse panel cover does not provide information on the exact location of the fuel pump fuse, refer to the vehicle manual.
2. Start the engine and wait until it stops. Switch off the ignition.
3. Remove the filler cap to relieve pressure in the fuel tank.
4. The fuel system is now depressurized.
Place a rag around the fuel lines before disconnecting the fuel lines to prevent fuel residue from getting on the engine.
5. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery before working on any part of the system.
If your vehicle's radio is equipped with an anti-theft system, make sure you know the correct code to activate the system before disconnecting the battery. Before disconnecting the wire, refer to Section Anti-theft audio system and instrument panel language.
If a message in another language appears on the control panel display after the battery is connected, refer to Section Anti-theft audio system and instrument panel language.
