Removal and installation the carburetor (BMW 5 Series E28)

Removal



1. Remove the air cleaner as described in Section Removal and installation the air cleaner.

2. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the carburetor, referring to Section Checking, adjusting and replacing the accelerator cable.

3. On models with automatic transmission, disconnect the reset cable.

4. Disconnect the wires from the carburetor, remembering their location.

5. Loosen the screw and disconnect the wire from the throttle actuator bracket to the body (shown by arrow).

6. Disconnect the vacuum hoses, noting that the hose with the white stripe is connected to the white plastic tee and the distributor vacuum hoses go to the sides of the carburetor.

7. On the 2B4 carburetor, disconnect and plug the cooling system hoses coming from the TM valve (thermo starter).

8. Disconnect the fuel supply hoses.

9. Remove the four bolts and disconnect the insulating screw (flange) on the carburetor intake manifold.

10. If necessary, unscrew the nuts and remove the insulating flange from the inlet pipe.

Installation



Installation is the reverse of removal, however, be sure to thoroughly clean the mating surfaces. The insulating flange can be reused if in good condition. Adjust per Section Checking, adjusting and replacing the accelerator cable accelerator cable and release cable (where it is applied) - by Chapter Automatic transmission (AT).
