Installation
8. Installation of the cable is carried out in reverse order. Lay the cable as it was laid before. After that, adjust the cable as follows.
Adjustment
9. Fine adjustment of the cable requires a special BMW tool that can be used to set the position of the throttle potentiometer. However, the initial cable position on a manual transmission model can be set as described below, provided that the final adjustment is made by a person with the necessary equipment.
Note. On models with automatic transmission, the adjustment should immediately be entrusted to a specialist.
10. Set the accelerator pedal and throttle control sector to the idle position.
11. Turn the knurled wheel on the cable sheath to take up any slack in the cable.
12. Now unscrew the wheel a quarter of a turn to loosen the cable a little.
13. Ask the assistant to fully depress the accelerator pedal. With the pedal depressed, the throttle valve should have a play of approximately 0.5 mm relative to the body.
14. If necessary, adjust the position of the accelerator pedal with a stop screw screwed into the floor. The screw may have a locknut. In this case, before adjusting, release it, and after adjusting, tighten it.
