Removal and installation the handbrake cable (BMW 5 Series E39)

Removal

Remove the handbrake lever.

Remove the handbrake pads.



Press pin "1" and remove the handbrake shoe release lock.

Remove bolts "2" securing the Bowden cable support.

Remove the handbrake cable and pull it out of the protective tube.

Installation

Run the cable to the handbrake lever and to the rear wheel brake mechanism.

Caution: When pulling the cable through the protective tube, ensure that the Bowden cable support is in contact with the protective tube.

Hang the Bowden cable in a plastic clamp.



Place the support on the handbrake cable and screw it with two bolts "2" to the brake shield.

Complete the rear brake mechanism.

Install the handbrake lever

Adjust the handbrake.
