Electrical Components/Sensors — Removal and Installation (BMW 3 Series E46)

1. The turbine speed sensor, output speed sensor and gear engaged switch are located in the gearbox housing. Removing these sensors requires removing the oil pan and partially disassembling the gearbox, so this work should be performed at a specialized service station.

2. The electronic transmission control unit is located in the electronic control box. This box is installed in the left corner of the engine compartment. Unscrew the screws, remove the box cover, disconnect the wiring connector and remove the control unit.
