Models with a dipstick for checking the fluid level

1. Place the car on a level surface, apply the parking brake and start the engine. Let the engine idle, press the brake pedal and sequentially switch all gearbox modes, starting and ending with the "P" position.

2. The transmission fluid level dipstick is located in the rear left corner of the engine compartment.

3. The transmission fluid level depends on the temperature. To determine the temperature of the transmission fluid, there is a special tester that connects to the diagnostic connector. This connector is located in the right corner of the engine compartment. However, you can measure the temperature of the fluid by lowering a thermometer into it through the dipstick hole.

4. Start the engine and let it idle. Remove the dipstick and wipe it with a lint-free cloth, reinsert it, then remove it again and check the fluid level.

5. Measure the distance between the lower edge of the dipstick and the fluid level and compare it with the "Technical Data" at the beginning of this chapter. If the level is too low, add the recommended fluid through the dipstick hole. Use a funnel to make the job easier.

Caution: Be careful not to introduce any dirt into the transmission during this procedure.

6. Add liquid to the required level. Add liquid in small portions and measure its level.

7. When finished working, stop the engine.

8. When checking the fluid level, also check its condition. If the fluid is black or dark brown or has a burnt smell, replace the fluid (see paragraph 9).

Models without a probe

Note: You will need a new filler neck seal during installation.

9. To check the fluid level, unscrew the filler cap. If necessary, (for ease of access) raise the vehicle and support it (see "Raising and Supporting the Vehicle"). Keep in mind that the vehicle must be in a horizontal position.

10. Start the engine and let it idle. Press the brake pedal and sequentially switch all gear modes, starting and ending with the "P" position

11. Place a container under the vehicle under the inspection/filler hole, then unscrew the plug (Fig. 8.11). Remove the sealing ring.

11. Place a container under the vehicle under the inspection/filler hole, then unscrew the plug…

12. The liquid level should reach the lower edge of the inspection hole

13. If necessary, add liquid so that it flows out of the hole.

14. When checking the fluid level, also check its condition. If the fluid is black or dark brown or has a burnt smell, replace the fluid (see paragraph 9).

15. Place a new sealing ring on the plug, screw the plug in and tighten it to the specified torque.

16. Stop the engine and lower the car to the ground.

17. See paragraphs 1-8.

Models without a probe

18. In these models, the transmission fluid level should be checked at a specialized service station.
