Check the mating surface of the cylinder head for warpage (see subsection "Detailed technical specifications") using a polished ruler and a set of feeler gauges.
If necessary, grind the mating surface. In this case, it is permissible to remove a layer of metal no more than 0.5 mm thick. Since the 1978 model year, the reduction in the height of the cylinder head during grinding is allowed by no more than 0.3 mm.
Note: If the mating surface of the cylinder head is ground, the mating surface of the upper timing cover to the cylinder block must be ground to the same extent.
