Setting the ignition timing using a stroboscope (BMW 5 Series E12)

Loosen the distributor housing fastening.

Connect the strobe light according to the operating instructions.

If the ignition distributor has a vacuum advance regulator, disconnect the vacuum hose from it.

Start the engine and bring the engine speed up to the ignition timing setting value (see "Detailed technical specifications").

Turn the distributor housing so that the mark on the engine flywheel is located in the center of the clutch housing hatch.

In this position, tighten the distributor housing mounting bolt to the bracket and check the stroke of the centrifugal ignition timing regulator curve (see the graphs in the subsection "Detailed technical specifications").
