Control and signal lamps (BMW 5 Series E34)

            0

Right and left direction indicators

The lamp flashes when the turn signal is turned on.

High beam

Lights up when the high beam headlights are turned on and when the headlights are signaled

Sight direction indicator*

Lights up when the direction indicator is turned on while towing a trailer.

Brake pad wear indicator

Lights up when the starter is engaged and goes out after the engine starts. If this light comes on while driving, replace the brake pads immediately.

Caution: Only install brake pads that are certified by BMW, otherwise you will lose your warranty.

Parking (hand) brake

Goes out after the engine starts. Lights up continuously when the parking brake lever is pulled.

Brake fluid level

Goes out after the engine starts. If it lights up while driving, the brake fluid level is too low.

Anti-lock braking system (ABS)

Goes out after the engine starts. If it lights up while driving, it is a signal that the ABS is being turned off due to a system malfunction. In this case, the normal operation of the brakes is maintained without restrictions.

Oil pressure

Goes out after the engine starts. May come on at idle when the engine is hot, but should go out when the engine speed increases. If the light comes on while driving with the message appearing simultaneously "Oefdruck Motor" on the automatic diagnostics system display, you should stop immediately and turn off the engine. Check the oil level, top up if necessary. If the oil level is normal, do not start the engine and contact a BMW service station.

Electronic Engine Management (EML)*

(in combination with ASC - see below) If the lamp flashes when the ignition is switched on and then goes out, the system is OK. If the lamp does not go out or lights up while driving, there is a system defect, contact a BMW service station. You can continue driving at low engine speeds.

Battery charge

The lamp goes out after the engine starts. If it lights up while driving, it means that the battery is not charging. The alternator drive belt may be out of order or there is a fault in the battery charging circuit.

Note: If the alternator drive belt breaks, the coolant pump also stops working, so the engine overheats and may fail. Contact a BMW service station.

Fog lights

The indicator lights up when the fog lights are on.

Rear fog lights

The indicator lights up when the rear fog lights are on.
