Automatic diagnostic system (BMW 5 Series E34)
This system provides information about emerging faults in the form of text on the display, as well as instructions and warnings for the driver, some of which are accompanied by an audible signal. The incoming information is divided into 3 priority groups.
In the event of these faults, an additional sound signal is heard and the symbol (1) flashes.
If there are several faults at the same time, messages are issued in turn.
These messages remain on the display until the fault is corrected and cannot be cleared by pressing the self-diagnosis system button (2).
In the event of these faults, an additional sound signal is heard and the symbol (1) flashes.
If there are several faults at the same time, messages are issued in turn.
These messages remain on the display until the fault is corrected and cannot be cleared by pressing the self-diagnosis system button (2).
Messages are displayed when the ignition key is turned to position "2". If at this moment a message from the 1st priority group is displayed, it automatically disappears from the display (but warning symbols remain). If the "+" sign appears, there are more messages, they can be called up by pressing the "2" button.
Sensor Oelstand: The engine oil level sensor is faulty. Contact a BMW service station.
The message also appears before the trip with the ignition key in position "2", and after a while they disappear together with the warning symbols. A new message appears only when the ignition key is set to position "O".
When the sign appears, further messages can be called up by pressing the "CC" button.
Set the ignition key to position "2" - there should be no error messages - and press the "CC" button: a frame of dots should appear.
