Removal and installation the generator (BMW 5 Series E39)

Removal

Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable. The battery is located in the luggage compartment behind the right side trim.

Caution: This will erase the contents of memory devices, such as the engine fault code memory device. Follow the instructions in the chapter "Removing and installing the battery".

Insulate the negative battery terminal to avoid accidental electrical contact.

Remove the air filter.

Remove the viscous fan clutch.

Remove the poly V-belt.

Remove the ventilation hose from behind the generator.

Disconnect the plug from the D+ terminal on the rear of the generator by squeezing the wire clamp.

Remove the cover from the B+ contact. Unscrew the nut and disconnect the thick wire.



Unscrew the "arrow" fastening and remove the generator.

Installation

Place the generator and screw it with bolts.

On the reverse side, tighten the thick wire mounting bolt to a torque of 15 Nm.

Connect and secure the plug.

Place the ventilation hose behind the generator.

Install the poly V-belt.

Install the viscous fan clutch.

Install air filter.
