Removal and installation of window lifters (BMW 7 Series E38)

Front door

1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

2. Adjust the position of the front door glass (see section Replacement and adjustment of sliding door glass).

3. On models with a side airbag, remove it.



4. Unhook and remove the inner door handle.



5. Press down the connector lock, move the lever down and disconnect the speaker wiring connector (1). Remove the bolts and remove the speaker box (2).



6. Disconnect the connector (1), unscrew the bolts (3) and remove the control unit (4). Cut the clamps securing the wiring harness and remove the holders (2) of the wiring (rivets with expansion sleeves). Remove the soundproofing material completely.





7. Lift the glass (1) up and fix it in this position using a wooden wedge (2). Disconnect the window lifter drive wiring connector, unscrew the bolts (3 lower bolts just loosen) and remove the window lift cable assembly.

8. Installation is carried out in reverse order. Please note the following points.



9. Install the window regulator into the corner bracket and insert all the bolts without tightening them completely. Tighten the bolts (1 and 2).



10. Insert the glass into the window regulator clamps and adjust the position of the glass.





11. Lower the glass to the stop and tighten the bolts (3 and 4).



12. Raise the glass to the stop and tighten the bolts (5 and 6).

Back door

1. Remove the rear door glass (see section Replacement and adjustment of sliding door glass).



2. Remove the bolts, disconnect the connector and remove the window regulator (1).
