The vehicles discussed in this manual meet the SAE J1819 Child Safety Restraint System.
To ensure the safe transportation of small and medium-aged children, special child seats and restraints that are compatible with the standard seat belts should be used. Detailed instructions on the placement and installation of child seats should be included with them; if necessary, consult a BMW representative.
Always seat your child back car seat and secure the child securely with a special child seat or seat belt. Do not hold the child on your lap, do not allow the child to stand, kneel or move around inside the vehicle while the vehicle is moving. The child seat should be installed in the middle rear seat. If it is not possible to use the middle rear seat, use the outer rear seats. Do not use the front passenger seat to secure a child seat, especially a rear-facing one, because the deployment of the airbags in a collision could cause serious injury to the child or even death.
If you need to place a teenager or a middle-aged child in the front passenger seat, move the seat as far away from the front airbag as possible and fasten the child with a seat belt, or place the child in a forward-facing child restraint system secured in the front passenger seat with a seat belt. A booster cushion can be placed on the seat to help position the seat belt correctly on the teenager.

When using a child seat that requires an additional lanyard to secure it, secure it to the anchor points provided for this purpose.
