Air supply system — general information (BMW X5 E53)

            0

Table of contents: Intake manifold ↓ Air flow meter ↓
The air supply system is designed to supply air to the combustion chamber in the amount required by the engine at a given power mode, while maintaining complete combustion, and includes the following units and assemblies:
  • air intake device and air ducts;
  • air purification filter;
  • air flow meter;
  • intake pipe (manifold);
  • incoming air temperature and pressure sensors;
  • turbocharger and charge air cooler;
  • soundproof casing.

Intake manifold

The BMW X5 E53 intake manifold is designed to supply air to the intake valves of the cylinders and to dose the exhaust gas in the recirculation system.

Air flow meter

The main parameter that determines the fuel dosage is the volume of incoming fuel (sucked in) air, recorded by a hot-wire air flow meter, similar in principle to the engines "M54".. "N62".

To reduce the noise level of air sucked in by the engine, a soundproof casing consisting of several panels is provided.

The air supply by the turbocharger (TC) is discussed in detail in the section "Exhaust system".
