Exhaust gas neutralization system (BMW X5 E53)

The exhaust gas neutralization system is designed to reduce the toxicity of exhaust gases by directing part of the exhaust gases into the intake manifold – recirculation (eGR system), which reduces the temperature in the combustion chamber and the NOx content in the exhaust gas. The exhaust gas neutralization system with recirculation is shown in Figure 6.21.

The exhaust gases are taken directly from the exhaust manifold and fed through a pipeline (arrow) to the return valve (10). The exhaust gases enter the intake manifold.

The flow of exhaust gas is regulated by the vacuum transmitted to the vacuum valve of the pressure converter.
