Tightening torques for main threaded connections (BMW 3 Series E21)

Tightening torques of main threaded connections, kgf·m



Cylinder head bolts on a cold engine: 1st step: 3.0-3.5; 2nd dose: 6.0-6.5; Step 3: After the engine has warmed up, turn it further by 25°±5°.

Main bearing cap mounting bolt: 6.0-6.7.

Bolts for fastening the front cylinder block cover and the rear crankshaft oil seal holder: M6: 0.9-1.1; M8: 2.2-2.4.

Bolt for fastening the tensioner roller of the camshaft drive belt: 2.2—2.4.

Cylinder head cover fastening stud nut. 0.9—1.1.

Oil pan mounting bolt: 0.9-1.1.
Drain plug: 6.0-6.5.

Flywheel mounting bolt: 10.0-11.5 (first apply a special adhesive such as Loctite 270 to the threads).

Torsional vibration damper mounting bolt: 40.0-44.0.

Connecting rod cap bolt nut: 1st pass: 2.0; 2nd step: turn further by 70°.
camshaft toothed pulley mounting bolt: 5.6-6.6.

Rocker arm adjusting eccentric nut: 0.9-1.1.

Intermediate shaft toothed pulley mounting bolt: 4.0-4.4

Oil pump mounting bolt: 2.2-2.4

Bolt for fastening the cover and protective casing of the oil pump: 0.9-1.1.

Oil pump pressure relief valve plug: 2.5-3.0.

Oil filter mounting bolt on a cold engine: 2.4—2.6.

Water pump mounting bolt: 2.2-2.4.

Water pump pulley mounting bolt: 0.9-1.0.

Thermostat cover mounting bolt: 0.9-1.0.

Coolant temperature gauge sensor: 2.5-2.8.

Exhaust manifold mounting stud nuts: 3.0-3.3.
