Disassembly and assembly of the front wheel brake mechanism (BMW 5 Series E12)

When performing these operations, refer to the figure provided and take into account the following requirements:

• keep it clean, rinse the holes and parts with alcohol and dry them with compressed air;
• it is prohibited to subject pistons and cylinders to mechanical treatment;
• disassemble the caliper only if it is necessary to replace the bolts that secure the caliper halves and replace the sealing rings;
• make sure that the left and right brake calipers are in the correct position: the nipples for bleeding the brake hydraulic system must be facing upwards.
