Wheels and tires (BMW 5 Series E12)

The wheels have stamped steel rims, a central decorative cap and a decorative rim trim, which are secured with latches.

Rim size: 5^1/2 J x 14 H2.

The spare wheel is located below the left side of the luggage compartment floor under the carpet.

Tyre sizes: 175 HR 14 or 195/70 HR 14.

Brand And type tires: Continental TS or Michelin XWX.

From the 1978 model year onwards, deep-stamped steel 5½ J x 14 H 2-B rims were used, except for the 528 and 528i models, which used 6 J x 14 H 2-B rims, which were optionally made from light alloy.

Tires - with radial metal frame, tubeless.

Tire sizes and brands:

• "525": 175 HR 14 Michelin X-AS; Phoenix 2010 S; Uniroyal Rallye 240, Veith-Pirelli TN CN 36 SM;
• "528" 195/70 HR 14 Continental TS 772 A; Dunlop 01; Michelin XVS;
• "528i": 195/70 VR 14 Continental TS 773; Michelin XWX; Michelin XDX.

Warning: When replacing or installing a tubeless tire, the valve with the rubber body must be replaced.

From the 1980 model year onwards, cars were fitted with 51 J x 14 H2 rims, except for the 525i, which used 6½ J x 14 H2 rims.



Tire size:

• "518" 175 SR;
• "520" and "525": 175 HR;
• "528i" and "535i": 195/70 VR.

Beginning with the 1982 model year, all vehicles were fitted with 5½ rims> J x 14 H2, except for the "528i" model, which used 6 J x 14 H2 rims.

Tire pressure

Tightening torque of wheel mounting bolts, kgf·m:

• since 1978 model year: 8.1-9.0;
• since 1980 model year: 10.0-11.0.
