If your vehicle's radio is equipped with an anti-theft system, make sure you know the correct activation code before disconnecting the battery. Before disconnecting the wire, refer to Section Anti-theft audio system and instrument panel language.
If a message in a different language appears on the instrument panel display after connecting the battery, refer to Section Anti-theft audio system and instrument panel language.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Insert a bronze feeler gauge between the encoder rotor and the pulse encoder. Move the feeler gauge up and down - if the gap is correct, a slight resistance will be felt during this movement of the feeler gauge. The gap must match Table of sizes and adjustment data at the end of the Guide.
3. To adjust the gap, you need a pulse sensor and remove the base from the distributor (Look illustration).
4. Following paragraphs 2-9 of Section Checking and replacing the pulse sensor and the ignition control unit (TCI system), loosen the screws that secure the pulse generator to the base.
5. Carefully insert the probe and tighten the screws.
6. Install the removed assembly into the distributor and check the adjustment.
