If necessary, add oil to the oil filler neck on the cylinder head cover. Do not exceed the maximum allowable level (top mark on dipstick).
The volume of oil corresponding to the gap between the marks on the dipstick is about 1 liter. Adding more oil than required is useless and even harmful to the engine. In addition, excess oil burns quickly, so it gives the false impression of overspending oil.
Oil should be added only if its level drops, coming close to the lower mark on the dipstick. However, the oil level should not fall below this mark.
BMW engines are designed in such a way that not only are additives not needed when using high-quality branded oils, but under certain circumstances they can even lead to engine damage. This also applies to oils for mechanical and automatic transmissions, rear axle gear and power steering.
