Removal and installation the upper steering column trim (BMW 5 Series E39)
Removal
Move the steering column completely down and fully extend it.

Unscrew the "arrow" screw.

Press the upper steering column trim inward on both sides in the areas indicated by the arrows and pull it upward.

Unfasten and remove the top trim.
Installation
If necessary, replace the expansion nut of the upper mounting screw.

Place the upper lining and secure it. The stoppers "1" should fit into the receiving holes "2".
Press the upper trim on the steering wheel side down and secure it to the lower trim from the side.
Tighten the upper trim mounting screw.
