Replacing the upper steering column trim (BMW X5 E53)

The upper steering column trim must be replaced in the following order. Set the steering column to the "down" and "extended" position. Loosen the screw securing the upper steering column trim. Press the upper trim on both sides and move it up. Press the front part of the upper trim down from the pins and remove it (fig. 12.24).



Install the upper trim in the reverse order, replacing the nut of the upper trim fastening screw. Install the upper part and secure it so that the hooks click into the receiving sockets. Secure the upper part with a screw, tightening it to a torque of 5.0 N·m (0.5 kgf·m).
