Attention! If traces of corrosion are detected on the ground gear rack, it is necessary to replace the steering gear and lubricate the rack teeth.
Replacement of a corrugated cover of the steering mechanism is necessary for carrying out in a following order. If necessary, remove the side panel of the crankcase protection. Mark with chalk the installation depth of the tie rod. In the future, this will facilitate the installation of the angle of convergence.
Release both clamps (1, fig. 12.14), and loosen the locknut (1, see fig. 12.9). Pull out the tie rod (2) from the handpiece and remove the protective cover.
If necessary, clean the rack and tie rod. If the ground surface of the toothed rack is damaged by corrosion, then the steering gear must be replaced. Lubricate the rack teeth with Calypsol D 4024-OK paste. Put on a new corrugated cover and fix it with clamps.
Screw in the tie rod (2) into the tip. Tighten locknut to 51 Nm (5.1 kgf·m). Check and adjust the angles of the front wheels.
