Checking the operation of the hydraulic booster pump
Attention! All work must be carried out in exceptional cleanliness to prevent the possibility of contamination entering the system.
To check the performance of the power steering pump, a device is used «32.4.000» with a whole range of transition elements, depending on the design of the pipeline fastening. Don't confuse on fixture «32.4.000» pipeline connections (pic. 12.2) – power steering pump (A) and steering mechanism (B) .

Screw on fixture «32.4.011» to the pump and connect the tool «32.4.004». Screw on fixture «32.4.006» or «32.4.012» to adaptation «32.4.000». Connection of pipelines with quick couplings
Quick Coupling with Marking
Dismantling with marked quick coupling (pic. 12.3) must be done in the following order. Slide quick coupling (1) along the pipe (4), thereby removing the compression force from the spring (2). Push in the plastic ring (3) in a quick coupling (1) and remove the clutch (1). Installation of the marked quick coupling must be carried out in the following order. Markings «TO» with quick coupling (1) and on the pipe (4) must be on the same axis. Put on the quick coupling (1) on the pipe (4) so that you hear a distinct click. To check the reliability of the installation of the coupling, pull the coupling with force (1) back.
Quick coupling with indicator pins
Dismantling with a quick coupling with indicator pins (pic. 12.4) must be done in the following order. Push in the plastic ring (2) in a quick coupling (1) and remove the clutch (1).
Installation of a quick coupling with pins must be carried out in the following order. Put on the quick coupling (1) on connector (3) so that the two indicator pins (4) on the outside diameter of the body (clearly visible and tactile) showed (spoke) out. To check the correct installation of the quick coupling (1) feel the indicator pins (4), when correctly installed, they should not be recessed into the housing.
Attention! If indicator pins (4) do not protrude from the case, the connection is not fixed properly. In this case, leakage is inevitable.
Check of work of the pump of the hydraulic booster of a steering
Checking the operation of the power steering pump must be carried out in the following order. Prepare fixture «32.4.000» and check for tightness all pipelines, pump and steering gear. Using a clean syringe, draw out the working fluid from the nutrient tank and send it for disposal.
Disconnect the pressure line from the pump and connect the tool. Restore the fluid level. To check the pressure of the power steering pump, you must:
- Close the tap (Ah, fig. 12.5);
- open the faucet (IN);
- start the engine;
- adjust the fluid level in the hydraulic booster reservoir;
- heat the liquid to a temperature of 50°C, turning the steering wheel at high engine speeds;
- Close the tap (IN) for a maximum of 10 seconds, read the pressure reading, which should be 120–130 bar (kgf/cm2).
Stop the engine. If the pump pressure is more than 10% higher (132–143 bar), replace the power steering pump. If the pump pressure is more than 10% lower (108–117 bar), check the tension of the V-belt. If the V-belt tension is correct, replace the power steering pump.
To check the power steering, you must:
- open the faucet (IN);
- Close the tap (A);
- start the engine;
- turn the steering wheel all the way to the left with a force of 100 N (10.0 kgf) and, holding it in this position with a dynamometer for 5 seconds, read the pressure gauge.
Release the steering wheel, turn it to the right and repeat the previous measurement. Stop the engine. If the measured pressure is lower than the previously measured pump pressure, the steering gear must be replaced.
Pump out the working fluid and send it for disposal. Remove the tool and restore the power steering circuit. Replace the sealing rings, connect the pipelines and tighten the M14x1.5 hollow bolts to a torque of 35 Nm (3.5 kgf·m), and bolts M16x1.5 with a torque of 40 N·m (4.0 kgf·m). Restore the fluid level, bleed the system and check for leaks.
