Turn the steering wheel to the extreme position using a dynamometer for approximately 5 s, applying a force of 100 N.
Measure the operating pressure of the power steering pump.
Repeat the above operation by turning the steering wheel in the opposite direction.
If the measured pressure is lower than the maximum working pressure of the pump, the reasons for this may be as follows:
- insufficient pump performance;
- hydraulic steering fluid leak;
- damage to the steering gear housing gasket;
- contamination of the high pressure valve plunger;
- high pressure valve plunger sticking.
