Turn the steering wheel to the end position using a dynamometer for about 5 s, applying a force of 100 N.
Measure the working pressure of the power steering pump.
Repeat the above operation by turning the steering wheel in the opposite direction.
If the measured pressure is lower than the maximum working pressure of the pump, the reasons for this may be the following:
- insufficient pump performance;
- fluid leakage from the hydraulic steering system;
- damage to the steering gear crankcase gasket;
- contamination of the high pressure valve plunger;
- stuck high pressure valve plunger.
