Clamp bracket 32 1 100 in a vice and install steering gear on it.
Loosen the steering damper mounting nut and push in the damper rod.
Remove the rack stop hex adjusting bolt cover.
Turn out an adjusting bolt of an emphasis of a lath approximately on 12 mm.
Rail Stop Adjustment
Remove the safety pin.
Tighten the adjusting screw of the rail stop to a torque of 6 Nm using a key 32 1 040 and a torque wrench, then unscrew the adjusting screw by an amount corresponding to the length of the edge.
Install adapter 32 1 000 and special tool 00 2 000 with a dynamometer on the steering gear, then turn the steering gear to the left and right and throughout the entire travel of the steering gear rack, which should move without jamming.
If the rail jams, again turn out the adjusting screw of the rail stop by an amount corresponding to the length of the edge, and put the safety cotter pin in place.
Check again if the rail moves freely. If the jamming persists, replace the rail. It is strictly forbidden to unscrew the adjusting screw of the rail stop again by the value of the edge length.
Adjusting the torque of the drive gear
Set rack to midpoint position and fit special tool 00 2 000 with dynamometer to drive gear through adapter sleeve 32 1 000.
Measure the turning torque of the drive gear. If the torque of turning the gear does not fit within the specified limits (cm. «Detailed Specifications»), adjust it with a hexagon socket head screw. To increase the gear turning torque, turn the screw clockwise, and to decrease it, turn it counterclockwise.
Steering rack replacement
Disassembly
Remove the steering gear.
Clamp bracket 32 1 100 in a vice and install steering gear on it.
Bend back the tabs of the locking plates installed next to the protective covers.
Move the steering rack to the end position. Depending on the steering version, unscrew the shock absorber rod mounting nut.
Remove the tie rods by unscrewing the left ball joints with a fork wrench 32 2 110 by 32 mm.
Remove the clamps securing the steering rack protective covers, and then the rack covers from the steering gear housing tube.
Depending on the version of the steering mechanism, disconnect the shock absorber from the support sleeve bracket. Remove the rack support and spacer bushings.
Remove the steering rack.
Assembly
Insert the new rack into the steering gear case tube.
Install the rack support sleeve so that the short spacers fit into the grooves as far as they will go.
Install the steering damper. Replace the self-locking nuts each time the shock absorber is removed.
Install the tie rods in the steering housing tube. Replace the protective covers so that the shoulder fits into the groove on the steering gear housing.
Bend the lugs of the locking plates of the axial ball joints of the steering rods into the grooves of the locking plates.
Install the steering box on the vehicle and check the front wheel alignment.
