Caution! If the distance between the front side member and the dual cardan shaft is less than 5 mm, the steering gear must be re-aligned during installation.
The distance between the front side member and the double cardan shaft must be checked in the following order. Unscrew the M12x1.5x75 bolts (arrows, Fig. 12.15) fastening the steering gear to the front axle beam.

On a left-hand drive vehicle, push the steering gear all the way back on the left side when looking in the direction of travel, and forward on the right side. On a right-hand drive vehicle, push the steering gear all the way forward on the left side when looking in the direction of travel, and backward on the right side. This will ensure maximum clearance between the front side member and the dual cardan shaft.
Replace the self-locking nuts of the M12 bolts (10.9) and tighten them in three stages – to a torque of 100 N·m (10.0 kgf·m) + 50 N·m (5.0 kgf·m) + turn further by an angle of 90°.
