The catalytic converter reduces the toxicity of exhaust gases.
Use only unleaded gasoline.
Even a slight admixture of tetraethyl lead is enough to completely disable the oxygen sensor and catalytic converter.
To avoid possible damage and to ensure trouble-free operation of the engine, the following rules must be observed.
Be sure to carry out all specified maintenance work.
Keep an eye on the timely refueling of the tank.
In the event of interruptions in the operation of the engine, turn it off immediately. Only a cold engine can be started by towing. Otherwise, unburned fuel will enter the catalytic converter. To start the engine, it is better to use auxiliary cables.
Avoid other situations in which the fuel does not burn completely or does not burn at all, such as frequent or prolonged use of the starter with short intervals between starts, repeated unsuccessful attempts to start the engine (this does not mean starting or stopping an engine that is serviceable in all respects), engine operation with the spark plug tip removed.
Be sure to follow the above recommendations, otherwise unburned fuel will fall on the catalytic converter. As a result, there is a risk of overheating and damage to the catalytic converter.
During the operation of the catalytic converter, on whichever vehicle it is installed, a high temperature develops. Heat shields installed in the exhaust area must not be removed or covered with anti-corrosion mastic. Care must be taken to ensure that hot parts of the exhaust system are not dangerously close to flammable materials while driving, idling or stationary (grass, leaves, straw, etc.). Otherwise, there is a danger of their ignition, associated with the risk of severe injuries to the victims and causing significant material damage.
