Front Axle — General Information (BMW 5 Series E39)

The front articulated axle with independent wheel suspension made of aluminum alloy has a beam connected to the body with bolts through rubber supports. A separate axle beam is connected to the pivot bearings using transverse levers and rods. Hydraulic supports of the transverse levers provide significant damping of the existing wheel imbalance. The shock absorbers attached to the body and steering knuckles consist of coil springs and gas-filled twin-tube shock absorbers. An additional stabilizer prevents body roll during turns and provides better traction for the front wheels. The front axle is maintenance-free. Welding and straightening work on all parts of the axle are not allowed.

Caution: Since the chassis is completely made of aluminum alloy, please follow the instructions below.

Do not allow battery electrolyte to come into contact with chassis parts.

To clean the parts, use only a brush made of stainless steel. Do not use iron or brass brushes.

When grinding/lapping undercarriage parts, cover them and do not allow sparks to hit them directly.

Avoid contact with steel drops during welding; cover the parts.

Do not allow local heating of chassis parts above +80°C. The temperature of drying chambers during painting does not pose a danger.
