Fuel Pump Relay — Check (BMW 7 Series E32)

            0

The fuel pump relay is located in the relay box in the engine compartment or on the right side of the trunk behind the trim panel above the battery. It supplies current to the electric fuel pump. A safety circuit stops the current supply if the ignition is switched on and no pulses are received indicating that the engine is running.

When the fuel pump should work and the engine should not work to check the injection system, you need to pull out the relay and short-circuit contacts 30 and 87 (for diesel: contact 87) with a short wire with a cross-section of at least 18 mm².

Caution: To test the fuel pump relay, the battery must be fully charged.

Check the injection system fuse. The location of the fuses is shown on the fuse box cover.

Remove the fuel pump relay.

Remove the fuel pump relay.

Connect sockets 30 and 87 (diesel engine socket 87) short wire without damaging them. If the pump works, replace the fuel pump relay. If the pump does not work, check the wires going to the relay and to the fuel pump and replace the wires if necessary.

Check relay/fuel pump.
