Front wheel brakes
All models are equipped with ATE or Girling front wheel brakes with solid discs, crown «323i «, with fixed calipers, two-piston, with automatic adjustment of the gap between the block and the working surface. On «323i» front wheel brakes have ventilated discs.

Rear wheel brakes
All models except «323i»
The brakes of the rear wheels are drum, with self-centering pads.
Nominal drum diameter, mm: 250.
Increase in drum diameter after boring and grinding, mm: 250.5.
Maximum permissible drum diameter, mm: 251.
Maximum permissible ovality of the drum, mm: 0.05.
Wheel cylinder piston diameter, mm: 19.05.
Brand and type of friction linings:
- all models except «320» with a 6-cylinder engine: Energit 336 or Jurid 118;
- «320» with 6-cylinder engine: Energit 336.
Brake lining width, mm: 450±0.5.
Friction lining thickness, mm: 5-0.3.
Minimum friction lining thickness (when worn), mm: 3.
Model «323i»
Rear wheel brakes with solid discs, with fixed calipers, single-piston, with automatic adjustment of the gap between the block and the working surface.
Brand and type of caliper: ATE F 27.
Disc outer diameter, mm: 258-0.2.
Disc thickness, mm: 10.
Minimum disc thickness during operation, mm: 9.
Permissible difference in the thickness of the working surface of the disc, mm, not more than: 0.02.
Permissible disc imbalance, gf cm, no more than: 50.
Axial runout of the working surface of the disk, mm:
- when measured on a car: 0.2;
- when measured on a removed disk: 0.05.
Wheel cylinder piston diameter, mm: 27.
Brand and type of brake pads: Textar T 260 FF.
Marking (label color): yellow-green-yellow.
Minimum friction lining thickness (when worn), mm: 2.
Master brake cylinder
The main brake cylinder with two coaxial pistons brand ТН2.
Diameter of the main brake cylinder, mm: 20.64.
Piston stroke, mm:
- front brake circuit drives: 20;
- rear brake circuit drives: 14.
Vacuum booster
Brand and type: ATE T 52.
Piston diameter, mm:
- cars with 4-cylinder engines: 200;
- cars with 6-cylinder engines: 225.
Pressure regulator
Make and type: ATE BRMS/18.
Piston diameter, mm: 18.
Regulator switch-on pressure, kg/cm2: 25.
Marking: number «25» on the front of the regulator.
Parking brake system
All models are equipped with a manually operated mechanical parking brake system (with the exception of «323i») on the rear brake pads. On «323i» the parking brake is drum, the function of the drum is performed by the wheel hub.
Drum inner diameter, mm: 160+0.16.
Permissible ovality of the drum, mm, not more than: 0.1.
Brand and type of friction linings: Energit 338 HH.
Brake shoe width, mm 25±0.2.
With a properly adjusted parking system, the lever should move no more than 5 sector teeth.
Brake fluid
Used brake fluid: ATE, BMW, Castrol according to DOT 4. Frequency of checking the brake fluid level: at least every 15,000 km.
The frequency of changing the brake fluid: at least 1 time per year.
Tightening torques of the main threaded connections, kgf·m
- Bolt of fastening of a support to a rotary fist: 8,0-9,5.
- Bolt of fastening of a brake disk to a nave of a wheel: 6,0—6,7 (M8: 1.5-1.8).
- Bolt of fastening of a protective casing to a brake disk: 0,9—1,0.
- Tip of a brake hose and the union of brake pipelines 1,3-1,6.
- Connecting bolt halves of the caliper: 2.6-3.0.
- Nut of fastening of the main cylinder to the vacuum booster: 2.5-2.9.
- Nut for fastening the vacuum booster to the bracket: 2.2-2.4.
- Bolt for fastening the brake shield to the suspension arm: 6.6-6.7 (Pre-apply Loctite 270 to the threads).
- Wheel bolt: 8.1-9.0.
