Adjusting the clearance between the pads and the brake drum


Raise the rear of the vehicle and support it on stands.

Lower the parking brake lever to its lowest position.

While turning the wheel, press the shoes against the brake drum until the wheel is braked, using the special BMW 34 2 000 key to turn the head of the left adjusting eccentric counterclockwise and the head of the right adjusting eccentric clockwise.

Turn the adjusting cam heads back 1/8 of a turn until the wheel can barely rotate freely.

Adjusting the parking brake system



Adjust the parking brake if the lever moves more than six teeth of the sector.

Lift the protective boot of the parking brake lever.

Raise the lever up six teeth of the sector.

Loosen the locknuts on the threaded rods.

After tightening the adjusting nuts to a torque of 1.6–1.8 kgf·m, tighten each branch of the parking brake drive cable.

Tighten the locknuts.



Move the lever to the lowest position and make sure that the wheels rotate freely without sticking.

To ensure that the cables are equally tensioned, simply lift the parking brake lever slightly and turn the wheels manually.
