Removal and installation the suspension arm (BMW 3 Series E21)

Removal

Disconnect the parking brake cable from the parking brake actuator lever.

Disconnect the differential output shaft from the wheel drive shaft and remove the rear wheel.

Disconnect the telescopic strut from the suspension arm.

Disconnect the brake hose from the service brake system line, taking measures to prevent brake fluid leakage.

Disconnect the end of the stabilizer bar from the control arm.

Remove the parking brake cable and the suspension links.

Checking the technical condition

Press the rubber-metal hinges out of the suspension arm using a press.

Using tool 33 3 000, check whether the hinge sockets in the suspension arm are deformed by inserting a mandrel into the socket.

Before pressing in new rubber-metal hinges, generously lubricate their outer surface with an aqueous solution of soap liquid or special oil. Using a press, press the hinges with the flange facing outward into the sockets of the lever so that the end of the hinge is in the same plane as the surface of the hinge.

Installation

Attach the control arm to the rear suspension crossmember, tightening the mounting bolt nuts to the proper torque.

Connect the brake hose to the service brake line. Connect the end of the anti-roll bar to the suspension arm.

Place the telescopic strut in place and connect the wheel drive shaft and the differential output shaft.

Attach the cable to the parking brake lever.

Bleed the brake hydraulic system and adjust the parking brake.
