2. Install the motor in the mounting position as described in Section Removal and installation the oil pan in the Chapter Engine.
3. Remove the front brake discs and disconnect the electrical connectors of the front ABS wheel sensors and the front brake pad wear sensor (see chapter Brake system).
4. Remove the engine sump guard and disconnect the left and right engine mounts from the front axle cross member (see chapter Engine). For the M57 engine, disconnect the left and right consoles from the front axle cross member.

5. Loosen the nut and disconnect the transverse steering rod from the steering knuckle and from the left steering knuckle using puller No.32 1 190.
When installed, there should be no traces of grease on the seat cone and hole. Replace the self-locking nut.
6. Disconnect the steering gear from the front axle beam.

When installing, first secure the steering gear to the front axle beam by hand using bolt (1), and then tighten bolts (2) and (1) successively to the required force. Use new self-locking nuts.

7. Remove the heat shields and body reinforcements on the left and right sides. Disconnect the cable from the positive terminal of the battery. If necessary, disconnect the oil line from the front axle beam.

8. Place the jack with tool No.31 2 220 under the front axle beam and unscrew the bolts on the left and right sides.
When disconnecting the front axle beam mount from the body side, no one should be under the front axle!

9. Loosen the upper nuts securing the suspension struts on the left and right sides. If so equipped, disconnect the EDC system connector. Remove the strut cover.
Use new nuts when installing.
10. Remove the suspension assembly. To avoid damaging the ball joints and wheel arch liners, monitor the position of the struts, not allowing them to tilt too much. When lowering the jack, each strut should be supported by a separate person.
11. Installation is carried out in reverse order.
