Removal and installation the water pump (BMW 3 Series E30)
Removal
Disconnect the ground wire from the battery.
Drain the coolant from the engine (see section "Replacing the coolant").
Remove the fan.
Loosen the belt pulley mounting bolts. While doing this, hold and press the V-belt so that the pulley does not turn.
Remove the V-belt (see section "Removal and installation, tensioning of the alternator V-belt").
Loosen the 4 belt pulley mounting bolts and remove the belt pulley from the hub.
Six-cylinder engine: Loosen the engine lifting eye.
Pull the timing belt cover upwards, having first moved the rubber seal away.
Compress the tension spring of the timing belt tensioner and clamp the tension pin using the BMW 115010 tool.
Loosen and move back the hose clamps. Disconnect the water hoses from the pump.

Loosen the mounting bolts (arrows) and remove the water pump.
Four-cylinder engine: Remove 6 water pump mounting bolts.
Installation
Completely remove any remaining sealant with a scraper.
Install the water pump with a new gasket and tighten the bolt evenly to 22 Nm. Tightening torque on 316i models from September 1988 and 318i from September 1987: 9 Nm. Replace the O-ring.
Release the tension pin of the timing belt tensioner, while ensuring free rotation of the water pump.
Insert the timing belt guard, then the rubber seal.
Screw on the engine lifting eye.
Connect the water hoses and secure them with clamps.
Install the belt pulley.
Install and tension the V-belt (see section "Removal and installation, tensioning of the alternator V-belt").
Tighten the belt pulley mounting bolts to a tightening torque of 9 Nm, while holding the pulley with a V-belt to prevent it from turning.
Install the fan.
Note: The mounting nut has a left-hand thread.
Fill the engine with coolant (see section "Replacing the coolant").
Connect the ground wire to the battery.
Warm up the engine and check the tightness of the hose connections and the water pump.
