Removal and installation the release bearing (BMW 3 Series E30)

If the release bearing is defective, noise can be heard when the clutch pedal is pressed.

Removal

Remove the gearbox (see section "Removal and installation the gearbox").



Remove the spring clip "7" and the release lever "4" with the release bearing "3" from the gearbox shaft.

Check the release bearing by hand. To do this, lightly squeeze and rotate the bearing. It should rotate easily, otherwise it must be replaced.

Installation

Lightly lubricate the lubrication groove "N", guides "F" and bearing surfaces "L" of Longthern 2.

Caution: For a composite flywheel, lubricate the keyways with Microlube 261.

Check the dimensions B and C of the release bearing. Height B should be 40±0.4 mm and height C should be 25±0.25 mm. If there are any deviations in the dimensions, replace the parts.



Place the release lever with the release bearing on the gearbox shaft and secure with a spring clip.

Install the gearbox (see section "Removal and installation the gearbox").
