Removal and installation the engine air filter (BMW 3 Series E46)

On 320d diesel engines, the air filter is located directly on the engine and integrated into the cylinder head cover.

Removal

1. Cars with cruise control: Loosen the mounting bolts and remove the cruise control motor from the holder (arrows in the illustration). Move the electric motor with the wires attached to the side.

2. Disconnect the suction pipe from the front side of the air filter.



3. Remove both clamps "2" from the air mass meter with a screwdriver. The regulators on the plug "3" and clamp "1" should not be loosened.



4. Loosen screw "1" and pull out the air filter box upward. Note: At point "2" there is a rubber support under the air filter. The illustration shows the air filter without the filter element and the upper part.

Installation

5. Install the air filter housing onto the lower rubber support. At the same time, connect the suction pipe to the front side of the air filter.

6. Fasten screw "1".

7. Install the mass meter with the sealing ring and secure with brackets.

8. Cars with cruise control: Attach the speed control motor to the holder.
