Axle load sensor — removal and installation (BMW 3 Series E46)
Removal
1. Cars equipped with xenon headlights have an automatic headlight beam adjustment system. Sensors installed on the front and rear axles of the car inform the system about the ground clearance value, and the electric headlight drives change the angle of the light beam in the desired direction. The sensors are installed between the subframes and the lower suspension arms. To access the sensor, lift the corresponding part of the car and place it on supports (see Fig. "Lifting and installing the car on supports"). Remove the engine crankcase guard (if it exists).
2. Unscrew the nut securing the rod to the sensor lever and disconnect the rod.
3. Unscrew the two mounting nuts and remove the sensor. Disconnect the electrical wiring connector from the sensor (Fig. 12.3).

Installation
4. Install the sensor in the reverse order of removal. Make sure that the wiring connectors are securely connected.
