Instrument panel — removal and installation (BMW 3 Series E46)
Removal
1. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal (see chapter 5A).
2. Fully lower and pull the steering column towards you.
3. Remove the two Allen head screws located at the top of the instrument panel and carefully pull the top of the instrument panel away from the faceplate (Fig. 9.3).

4. Lift the clips and disconnect the electrical wiring connectors, then remove the instrument panel from the vehicle (Fig. 9.4).

Installation
5. Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. Make sure that all instrument panel wiring connectors are connected and secured with clips. Once installation is complete, reconnect the battery and check the operation of the indicator lights.
Note: If you are installing a new instrument cluster, it will need to be coded. This procedure should be carried out by a BMW dealer or specialist.
