The torque converter provides a link between the engine and the drive wheels and serves to change the torque when the vehicle accelerates.
The planetary gearbox provides the inclusion of forward and reverse gears, depending on which of its elements are inhibited or interlocked with each other. Transmission components can be braked or coupled by hydraulically controlled friction clutches. The transmission controls receive signals from the hydraulic control unit. The pump maintains the required pressure of the working fluid in the gearbox.
The driver controls the gearbox using a seven-position selector, as well as a four-position switch. The gearbox can operate "drive" or in mode "hold" in the first three gears (for 4 speed gearbox) or in gears 2 to 4 (for 5 speed gearbox). Working mode "drive" (D) provides automatic shifting in the entire range of forward gears and is designed for normal driving conditions, Mode "hold" similar to the previous mode, except that it has a limited number of gears. So, in position "3" selector, only one of the first three gears is engaged. At the position "2" selector, only one of the first two gears is engaged, and so on. This mode is used when driving on a bad road and also to prevent upshifting when driving on a winding road.
With the help of an additional switch, one of three driving modes can be selected: "Economy" (economical). "Sport" (sports) And "Manual" (manual) (for 4 speed gearbox) or "Winter" (winter) (for 5 speed gearbox).
Mode "kickdown" automatically engages a lower gear when the accelerator pedal is fully depressed.
On some models, the Steptronic system is installed. which allows the driver to shift gears by moving the selector lever forward to increase speed or backward to decrease speed.
Since the transmission is fully automatic, any repairs should only be carried out at a specialized workshop. This chapter provides general information only, as well as instructions for servicing the transmission, which you can follow yourself.
