Installing the front axle (BMW 5 Series E12)

The front axle is installed in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the following:

• when installing the flexible steering coupling, set the front wheels and steering wheel to the straight-ahead position. The marks on the steering gear housing and the pitman shaft must match. Make sure that the lower steering shaft mounting bolt fits correctly into the groove;
• make sure that the engine mount bracket mounting tabs are correctly positioned in the grooves;
• tighten the threaded connections to the specified torques (see "Detailed technical specifications".
