Clutch maintenance (BMW 5 Series E12)
Adjusting the clutch pedal free travel
BMW "525", "528"
The free travel of the pedal is adjusted automatically by the clutch drive slave cylinder. Check the wear of the clutch slave disk every 60,000 km (without removal).
BMW "518", "520", "520i"
Press the clutch release fork by hand in the direction of its travel until the end of the working cylinder stroke.
Move "A" (see picture) the new clutch when measured on the pusher should be within 17-19 mm. This stroke decreases as the driven disk wears. At a value of "A" of 5 mm, the disk wear reaches the limit and the disk is subject to replacement.

Bleeding the clutch hydraulic drive
If fluid leaks or air gets into the clutch hydraulic drive, it does not fully disengage, which can cause damage to the gearbox.
Remove air from the clutch hydraulic system in a timely manner using a bleeding device.
