Removal and installation window glass and window shaft seals (BMW 5 Series E34)

When installing a window, all external seals and decorative trims must be removed. If you do not have enough experience, it is recommended to entrust these works to a service station, since under certain circumstances you may encounter difficulties in fitting and processing deficiencies.

Removal



Remove the inner door trim.

Carefully remove the seal from the door cutout.

Roll down the window.

Remove the side clamps by pressing them with a screwdriver in the direction of the arrows and pressing the spherical heads.

Remove the plastic decorative frame from the window cutout.

Unscrew the outside mirror, disconnect the connector.

Pull out the rubber seal plug and pull the rubber in the rear pillar area up.

Remove the screws and remove the trim. Remove the outer seal of the window shaft (right picture).

Caution: To avoid damaging the paint, use a wooden wedge or place a cloth underneath.


Remove the guide rubber from the glass guide rails.

Pull the glass out of the window upwards.

Installation



Insert the glass into the window shaft from above and connect the spherical heads. Push the clamps.

Insert and press the guide rubber.

Apply the sealing rubber and secure it with plugs.

Secure the outer window shaft seal in the clamps. Replace bent clamps.

Attach the plastic decorative frame and slide it under the door seal.

Screw the outer cover with 3 screws.



Install the outside mirror.

Adjust the window glass.

Install the outer window seal with clamps on the outside of the door. Replace any bent trims.

Install the inner door trim with the inner seal.
