Lambda probe — removal and installation (BMW 7 Series E32)

            0

Caution: When applying the protective coating to the underbody, the lambda probe must be exposed.

Removal

Remove the engine cover above the injectors.

Raise and support the vehicle.

Disconnect the lambda probe plugs and separate them.

Loosen the wire holder.

Unscrew the lambda probes from the exhaust manifold. While doing this, turn the wires by hand so that they do not get pinched.

Unscrew the lambda probes from the exhaust manifold. While doing this, turn the wires by hand so…

Please note: Lambda probes cannot be cleaned or lubricated with any lubricants.

Apply high temperature grease only to the lambda probe threads.

Attention: If the lambda probe is screwed in without high-temperature grease, then over time the thread will "seize" and it will be almost impossible to unscrew the lambda probe. A new lambda probe already has this special grease on the thread.

Screw the lambda probes into the exhaust manifold and tighten to 30 Nm.

Attach the electrical wire and connect the plug. The wire must be routed so that it does not fray or touch hot parts of the exhaust system.

Install the engine covers.
