Removal and installation lambda probes (BMW 7 Series E38)
The threads of new lambda probes are already lubricated with Never Seez Compound. When installing a used lambda probe, lubricate only its threaded part with a thin and even layer of the specified paste. Do not clean or bring into contact with grease the part of the lambda probe located in the exhaust pipe. When applying anti-corrosion protection to the underbody, the lambda probe should be covered. Lay the electrical wiring of the lambda probes in accordance with the original wiring diagram.
Models with M52, M60 and M62 engines

1. Disconnect the lambda probe wiring connector.
2. Release the clamp and remove the lambda probe wire.
3. Unscrew the lambda probe.

4. Tighten the lambda probe using tool No.11 7 030 to the required torque.
Models with M52TU engine
Pre-catalytic lambda probe
1. Loosen the clamp and release the lambda probe wiring. Disconnect the pre-catalytic lambda probe connector.
If the connector is located under the injector guard, remove the lower part of the cabin filter housing and the injector guard.

2. Remove the lambda probe using special tool No.11 7 020.
3. Tighten the lambda probe using tool No.11 7 020 to the required torque.
Post-catalytic lambda probes
On models with automatic transmission, if the deviations are too large, access to the post-catalytic lambda probe on the side of cylinders No.4–6 is only possible after removing the exhaust system.
1. Remove the protective cover of the injectors.

2. In order to avoid confusion during installation of the connectors of the post-catalytic lambda probes for cylinder rows No.1-3 and No.4-6, apply the corresponding marks to the connectors.
3. Release the wiring from the holder and disconnect the connector. Remove the wiring from the cable channel at the rear of the engine.
4. Remove the post-catalytic lambda probe for cylinder bank No.1-3 using special tool No.11 7 030, and the post-catalytic lambda probe for cylinder bank No.4-6 using special tool No.11 7 020.
5. Installation is performed in the reverse order. To install the lambda probes, use the same tools as for their removal.
Models with M73 engine

1. Loosen the nuts on the cover and disconnect the connector.

2. Remove the lambda probe using tool 11 7 030.
3. Installation is performed in the reverse order. To install the lambda probes, use the same tool as for their removal.
